Buttery
is a classy left-back who has reliable passing skills, delivers a
good dead ball and rarely gets flustered defensively. Signed for City
in February 2007, moving up a division from Cinderford Town where
he'd been one of their most improved players with increasingly solid
and consistent performances over a couple of seasons spent at The
Causeway. Had a good schooling in the game as a youth player at Ch#!tenham
Town but despite being very skillful on the ball and earning two years
on a pro contract he was then felt to be a little too slight for first
team football and released in May 2004. He has since grown in strength
and seems able to put up a more physical obstacle for an opponent.
Buttery jumped at the chance to step up a level when contacted by
Tim Harris and replaced injured left-back Michael Noakes. Buttery
seemed to have settled in to the side and put in several impressive
displays at the start of the 2007-08 season, but after just a handful
of games missed a game for undisclosed personal reasons and subsequently
decided to take a leave of absence from football. Hopefully it’s
nothing too serious as Luke has shown good form in his brief spell
with City, and it would be very sad if his promising talent was lost
to local football. The club retains his Southern League registration
and it’s understood Tim Harris
will remain in touch with him, so hopefully he’ll be back in
yellow and black before long. |

Buttery
is a Gloucester based player with some classy skills and should be
a real boost to a City squad that is starting to look better balanced.
Buttery is another player with links to Hartpury Colleage and has
represented the England Universities team over several seasons in
international competition. |
