Marc is an all-action hard working and versatile footballer who
has arrived at City with a reputation built at Cirncester Town where
he has proven himself to be an energetic midfielder with the happy
knack of making late runs and scoring important goals. Although
at his happiest in the centre of a team Richards has plenty of experience
playing at either central defence of full-back, and that versatility
will make him an important addition to a small squad. His signing
will also introduce fierce competition for places in the City starting
XI and keep every player on their toes.
Marc signed for City in March 2007 having decided to leave Cirencester
Town after a bust-up over a fixture clash which forced him to choose
between a club fixture and a fixture for Hartpury Colleage where
the player works. City have a good relationship with the college
with several other first team players already linked to Hartpury
with the club also often using their training facilities. It must
have been a disappointing end to a four year spell with the Cotswold
side who are facing a battle against relegation this season and
where Richards had been one of few players to retain his form, scoring
nine goals from midfield in a struggling side. Richards had been
vice-captain at Ciren and had played a key role in helping the club
to promotion to the Southern League Premier in 2004-05. Marc began
his career as a youth player with Ch#!tenham Town and started his
non-league career with Cinderford Town, having short spells with
Weston and Supermarine before moving to Corinium Park in 2003.
