Ashley
Thomas is a physically commanding centre half who will prove a tough
obstacle for attackers at any level, proving a strong competitor in
the challenge and at 6'3" more than capable of dominating in
the air. Thomas is an experienced stopper at Hellenic league level
and although the step up to Southern League football may require a
little time he is a player quite capable of making the adjustment.
Made an assured debut against Banbury and as well as some strong challenges
also impressed with his willingness to move forward to join the attack
at times. |

Thomas was a key component of the succesful Slimbridge side that
won the Hellenic Premier league last season only to see promotion
to the Southern League denied them at the last moment as financial
collapse saw his club withdraw from thel eague and effectively close
their first team. Thomas impressed in a couple of pre-season games
for City during the summer, notabley a 2-2 draw with Conference
side Salisbury, but at the time manager Tim Harris felt he had defensive
players ahead of Thomas which would keep him from regular football.
The player started the season with Shortwood United and came back
to haunt City as the Hellenic League Premier club enjoyed a good
FA Cup run, beating first Tiverton and then humbling Gloucester
in a 2-0 defeat when Thomas impressed in the heart of his side's
defence. Financial pressures and poor results at City have seen
a amjor squad reshuffle and the door finally open for Thomas to
step up and show that he can impress at a senior non-league level.
