Pen Pic:
Niblett was a solid defender, good in the air and rarely found out of position,
although sometimes capable of some lapses in judgment. Missed crucial parts of the trying 99/00
relegation campaign with knee trouble, and more
than a few people have suggested his absence owes something to lacking
determination to help out a struggling young team. Did not really cover
himself in glory following his return to the side in February where his sending
off and conceded penalty proved crucial in a 2-1 defeat at Newport, but did seem more like his old
self by the end of the season. Ended the season as one of three players taking
the club to an FA tribunal for failing to fulfill their contractual obligations,
and is still in dispute with the club over a final settlement despite moving on
to Rugby United.
On form Niblett was a key performer, a
man marker who stays close to his forward and added a robust physical presence
to the back line. Came to City with the "experienced and
reliable" tag having played most of his
career in the Conference, staying for 5
seasons at Telford where he played with Fergie, before moving to
Hednesford for £20,000.
