T-Ender City MotM: Neil
Mustoe - given the freedom to pick his passes in the first
half, and when taken off a poor City display got worse yet
|
The City side suffered from the end of term blues
as they were beaten by a Wealdstone side who overcame considerable
defensive frailties to get the win they so desperately need to
fight their way from the relegation places. Our Gloucester side
looked relaxed and enjoyed the better of the first half, but some
sloppy passing and careless play suggested a team that felt the
season's job was done. When the London team came at us with more
hunger and fight City's old defensive frailties returned to haunt
us and the bottom four side's sharp finishing helped them cruise
to a 2-0 win. It was little more than a disappointing home display
deserved, hopes of a top half finish seem to mean little to the
team.

Team Selection:
With more options
to chose from than in recent weeks Tim Harris recalled Jamie Reid
in the placeo f the missing Alex Sykes, trying Webb over on the
left side of the midfield four. With Thommo forced to fill in at
centre-back Alex Allard continued at right-back, while Jason Welsh
isn't yet ready to start leaving Griff and Cox as the strike partnership. |

Anorak Corner:
Our home form problems
don't yet seem to be completely behind us. This 9th home defeat
means now only Corby and Northwood have lost more SLP matches on
their own turft this season - and we all know where they are. In
fact our home form alone would see us relegated, but our away form
would see us in 3rd and in the play-offs. This might not tell us
anything new - but it adds to the frustration that if we could crack
the problem we'd be right up there. |
T-Ender Verdict
The players were unable to shrug off that end of season feeling
in the warm Spring sunshine, but you suspect that after another
disappointing home display Tim Harris may just be pointing out
to his team that many of them still have something to do in the
next few games to remain in his plans for next season. Unfortunately
when Wealdstone managed to go up a gear we just couldn't match
them, their need was greater. By that point we should have buried
them, but whilst our attacking play unsettled their nervy looking
defence it always lacked a final ruthlessness. Too many of our
players matched good moments with sloppy control and careless
passing. At this stage in the season there's only pride to play
for, but that should always be enough to motivate us and this
will go down as yet another game we should have won and ended
up losing.
